What's going on in class this week?

January 5th - January 9th

Math- On Monday, we will be working on multiplication and division number stories. Then, on Tuesday and Wednesday, we will work on dividing larger numbers. The way that they will be learning is different from how we learned it as kids (I know, what isn't). I still plan on showing them the way we learned along with the new strategies. Hopefully at the end of the unit they will have one division strategy that they do well. Finally, we will talk about remainders on Thursday. We will talk about when to leave them on the answer, when to drop them off, and when to round up to the next number.

Language Arts- It's time for DRAs and DIBELS again. They will dominate the students' lives for the next week and a half. Welcome back to school:)

Science- We will be starting up our next science unit sometime at the end of January or the beginning of February. Mrs. Machalec will be taking the class to learn about plants.

Social Studies- We will be taking a look into geography this unit. We will be looking at many areas from maps to Ohio's regions and how they have affected life in Ohio. We will be having a 1 question quiz on Wednesday. What are the 5 themes of Geography? They are movement, regions, places, human interactions, and location. They can receive extra credit if they can define each one. The answers are all in their social studies notebooks.
