I want to take a moment to take zero credit for developing the mastery club. I am borrowing the idea from Mrs. Renz, a teacher in Oregon. Her fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Steiner, had a mastery club when Mrs. Renz was a student, and now she is using it as a teacher. Mrs. Renz's website is amazing. You can take a look at http://www.redmond.k12.or.us/mccall/renz/.
Basically, students can research the answers to any of the following 84 challenges. When they have the answers, they will need to show me that they know them by setting up a time before the bell rings in the morning, during recess, or immediately after school. The student needs to know the information without notes to get credit for the challenge. Any student that masters 16 items will be placed in the hall of fame. They will stay on the list until I retire from teaching (at least that's the plan right now)...
