In
accordance with O.R.C. 3313.15, the Medina City School District Board
of Education sets its regularly scheduled meetings at its organizational
meeting.
The
meetings are announced in the Medina County Gazette as well
as other sources.

About Our School Board Members
Susan Vlcek, her
husband Ron and their five children have lived in Medina since 1987.
She holds a bachelors (Ohio State) and masters (Washington
University) degree in Social Work.
She has served the district as room mother, PTO president, volunteer
coordinator, tutor, member of various committees, and chairperson of
levy campaigns.
She is the coordinator for Junior Leadership Medina County, a
leadership development program for county teens. Susan is the
co-chair of the South African Mission Partnership, based in
northeastern Ohio. She is also quite active in her church, teaching
Sunday School, leading Youth Fellowship, and taking high school
students on summer mission trips.
She is a recipient of both the Medina County Women of Distinction
Award and the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award.
Susan is one of the two representatives of Medina City Schools on
the Medina County Career Center Board of Education.
Rob Wilder began serving on the
school board in 1988 -- it is the longest he has held any job, and
perhaps the most important, given the crucial relationship of public
education to democracy. His first campaign speech noted that he was
born in Medina and planned to die in Medina; he is occasionally
reminded that he has yet to fulfill that last campaign promise.
Rob is a graduate of the Medina
City Schools, as are his wife (Chris, a retired child psychiatrist),
his three grown daughters, and his mother. Rob attended junior high
in the same building where his mother went to high school, now the
county administration building. Similarly, Rob's daughters attended
middle school in the same building (Claggett) where Rob and Chris
became high school sweethearts playing trombones in the band.
Although Rob left town for a BA at
the College of Wooster and an MD at Case Western Reserve, and has
been fortunate enough to stand on 6 of the world's continents, he
feels incredibly blessed to have been born and be currently living
right here in Medina. He values family and community above
everything else, and this guides his continuing efforts to shape the
school district according to the community wishes.
His other contributions to our
community include service on the boards of the United Church of
Christ, Children Services Team, Community Mental Health Services,
Medina City Schools Foundation, ACCESS (the local cable channels),
Medina Tennis Association, the Recreation Center, Medina County Arts
Foundation, and the Medina County Career Center.
Rob's day job is actually more
nights and weekends, as an ER doc in several area hospitals. In the
past, he has been the director of ER's in Wayne and Ashland
counties, as well as Brunswick's Immediate Care Center. He also had
a family practice in Medina from 1980 to 1987 and greatly enjoys
running into former patients. He battles the local flora and fauna
in an effort to farm some acreage in Montville Township. In spare
moments he enjoys theatre (in and on both sides of the orchestra
pit), running, making maple syrup, tennis, composting, and travel.
Bill Grenfell, a native of
Painesville, Ohio, grew up in Jackson Township in Stark County.
Moving to Cuyahoga Falls after his freshman year of high school, he
graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1974. Subsequently, he
attended the University of Akron, graduating in 1978 with a
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
After graduation, Bill began his
career with the B&W Construction Company as an
estimator/construction engineer. During the nine years he worked for
B&W Construction Company, Bill obtained a Master’s degree in Civil
Engineering as well as a Master’s degree in Engineering specializing
in Mechanical Engineering.
In 1987, Bill moved career-wise to
Loral Defense Systems now Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training &
Support in Akron, Ohio, working in Finance as an estimator. This
company is the world leader in training and simulation, providing
military pilots high fidelity training in order to improve their
skills and proficiency.
Bill and his wife Carolyn moved to
Medina Township from Copley in 1986. They have three daughters,
Medina High School Class of 2006, 2009 and 2014. His daughters have
attended the Kindergarten Center, Fenn Elementary, Claggett Middle
School and Medina High School.
Bill began his involvement with the
Medina City Schools in 1993 at the Kindergarten Center when his
youngest daughter was a student. He has continued to be involved in
the classroom and at many school events including After Prom at
Medina High School, Junior Achievement at Claggett Middle School and
Sidney Fenn PTO through 2007.
He served on the Medina City
Schools Foundation from 2001 – 2008, where he was President and
Vice-President. On the Foundation, Bill helped start the Medina
college access program (MCSFcap), the Foundation membership program
and the Foundation newsletter. While on the Foundation, Bill also
served as member of the Ohio College Access Network (OCAN) member
advisor committee. OCAN is the statewide coordinating body for
college access in Ohio and is a major force for postsecondary
education support in the state.
Bill has coached youth soccer and
basketball in Medina almost continuously since 1993 when his oldest
daughter was in kindergarten until 2008 with his youngest daughter’s
6th – 8th grade team. He has been a volunteer coach with the Medina
Soccer Association (MSA) and Lady Knights Soccer Club, as well as
the Medina Junior Basketball Association.
Finally, Bill has been involved
with Boy Scouts in Medina, through his involvement with the Medina
City Schools’ PTOs. He has been able to sponsor and help obtain
funding for over a dozen Eagle Scout projects.
