I graduated from Medina Senior High, and both my B.S. and
M.A. are from the University of Akron.
I was most fortunate to again work as the artist for the Supreme
Council of Antiquities Egyptological Team in February of
2006. We discovered an unknown tomb in
the
NEWS UPDATE: Leaving for Egypt on January 8, 2009 to continue work on kv-63. Students in my Drawing I, Drawing II, and Senior Portfolio will not report to class during exam week. Finals will be given the week of January 5, 2009.
DRAWING I .................................... 1 semester................................................... 1/2 credit
Begin to learn and explore the techniques necessary to become a better artist. A variety of drawing materials and experiences will be explored, including pencil, charcoal, pastels, ink, and scratchboard. Subjects will involve two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and fantasy sources. This course is a prerequisite for Drawing II.
Prerequisite: None. Course Fee: $15.00.
DRAWING II ................................... 1 semester................................................... 1/2 credit
Expand on the ideas and techniques of Drawing I. Continue to use a variety of materials to create two-dimensional artwork. Create drawings that use combinations of ideas and materials. Suggested for the student who loves to draw, use value and color, and is thinking of a possible career in art.
Prerequisite: Drawing I. Course Fee: $15.00.
PROCESS PORTFOLIO ..........................1 semester......................................................1/2 credit
Art majors wishing to begin developing a portfolio for college, students who have been identified as gifted in visual arts (DEP) and those who have a strong understanding of the elements and principles of design are encouraged to take this course. A variety of art projects and medias will be explored using mainly two-dimensional processes. The types of assignments may include drawing, painting, printmaking, etc. Emphasis will be placed on following artistic procedures, creativity, and studio participation. Throughout the semester, students may be required to bring various miscellaneous materials from home.
Prerequisite: Dept./teacher recommendation; Gr. 10/11 standing. Course Fee: $18.00.
ANCIENT ART/ MODERN ART..........................................1 semester.......................................................1/2 credit
The class will study major artists, art styles and movements throughout history. Students will gather information through lecture, slides, videos, and participation in various class activities. Instruction on taking slide tests for art history will be covered. Studio art projects (both two and three-dimensional) that reflect the artist or period studied will be part of the learning process. Students who need or want a fine arts credit, but aren't studio art oriented, would do well with this class. Art majors are strongly recommended to take this class. The class will be offered on a rotating basis with Ancient Art being offered one year and Modern Art the next. Ancient Art offered school year 2008-2009.

SENIOR PORTFOLIO.........................1 semester............................................................1/2 credit
This course is for the serious art student who shows a strong understanding of the principles of design, and who has a high level of artistic talent. Students will have the opportunity to complete their portfolio for scholarship and college entry requirements. Guest speakers will discuss portfolio recommendations and careers in art. Two art electives (drawing & painting are recommended) are required for entrance into the course, or submission of a portfolio for review to obtain recommendation is required. (Approximate cost for both items: $15.00.) One mat board for each student will be provided. If the student wishes all pieces to be matted, they must purchase the additional board. *Offered first semester only.
