Freshman Year

Sophomore Year

February/April.........Begin researching colleges:
read literature, write for information, use websites

ACT or SAT I

to visit some colleges for tours and interviews

Night at Medina High School (March 17, 2009 7pm)
May/June...............Take ACT or SAT I
Visit campuses
July/August...........Continue campus visits
Request applications
for admissions and financial aid through the specific school
Consider test preparation
course
Senior Year
September............Register to retake ACT or SAT
I if needed, register for SAT II, if needed
Meet with Guidance Counselor
to review transcript and discuss college/career plans
Learn how, through your
counselor, applications and transcripts are processed
Narrow college choices
to 3 or 4 schools
Begin completing applications
Meet with college representatives
when they visit Medina High School to have further questions answered
October...............Submit completed applications to your Guidance
Counselor, carefully check specific requirements and deadlines: Allow
10 schools days to process.
Take or retake ACT or SAT if
needed
Attend local college nights and
fairs (ongoing throughout the school year)
Request teacher and/or counselor
recommendations, if necessary, giving 2-3 weeks to write the recommendation
November.........Take or retake SAT I or SAT II
CHECK DEADLINE FOR COLLEGE
APPLICATIONS. MOST APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE COMPLETED AND IN THE MAIL.
Finalize college visits
December...........Applications should be on file
by this time
January..............Attend Financial Aid Night at Medina High School (January
8, 2009 7pm)
Complete federal financial
aid application
February/April.....Complete scholarship applications and be aware of deadlines
Acceptance and rejection
letters are coming. If rejected, see your counselor; there still may
be many good possibilities
Send a letter of thanks
to colleges you will not be attending
May....................Finalize contract with college you will be attending.
This may be done much earlier than May; however, many colleges have
deadlines of May 1st.
Take AP exams
June....................Fill out your Senior Census card so your
final transcript will be sent to the college our your choice (cards distributed
at last Senior meeting)
Graduate!
July/August..........Attend Freshman Orientation
at college or university for testing, placements and scheduling
