Unless otherwise noted, applications are available in House ONE Office.

New for Class of 2009: Castele Family Scholarships

Five, $500 each, specific criteria requires

Band, Beeliner, and/or Lacrosse participation.

MEDINA SUNRISE ROTARY CLUB MARK SUTHERLAND MEMORIAL STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARD

                     -    Open to all college bound seniors

     -    Criteria: academics, character and community/school services

     -    Due by April 5 to:  Michael Schmidt, 7920 Ballash Road, Medina, Ohio 44256

 

ELLA CANAVAN SCHOLARSHIP

                    -    Must have attended Canavan at least one year;

     -    Students may apply for only ONE elementary school scholarship

     -    Must have minimum 3.0 gpa;  $500

     -    Applications available at MHS from February 3 to March 13

     -    Due to Mrs. Hershey, House 1 Office by March 13

 

GARFIELD SCHOLARSHIP

                    -    Must have attended Garfield at least one year;

     -    Students may apply for only ONE elementary school scholarship

     -    Must rank in the top 50% of class; $500; see also Charles J. Stangel Scholarship

     -    Applications available at MHS from February 3 to March 13

     -    Due to Mrs. Hershey, House 1 Office by March 13

 

HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIP

                    -     Must have attended Heritage at least one year;

     -   Students may apply for only ONE elementary school scholarship

     -    Must have minimum 3.0 gpa; $500; see also Wes Florian and

          Alternate Career Scholarships

     -    Applications available at MHS from February 3 to March 13

     -    Due to Mrs. Hershey, House 1 Office by March 13

 

SIDNEY FENN SCHOLARSHIP

                    -    Must have attended Fenn at least one year;

     -    Students may apply for only ONE elementary school scholarship

     -   Must rank in the top 20% of class

     -   Applications available at MHS from February 3 to March 13

    -   Due to Mrs. Hershey, House 1 Office by March 13

 

GARFIELD PTO “CHARLES J. STANGEL” MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

                -    Must have completed a vocational course of study at MCCC by graduation

    -    Must have attended Garfield School at least one year

    -    Applications available at MHS from February 3 to March 13

    -    Due to Mrs. Hershey, House 1 Office by March 13

 

HERITAGE PTA “WES FLORIAN” EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

              -    Must major in the field of education

    -    Must have attended Heritage School for at least one full school year

    -    Must have minimum 3.0 gpa

    -    Applications available at MHS from February 3 to March 13

    -    Due to Mrs. Hershey, House 1 Office by March 13

 

A.I. ROOT STePS SCHOLARSHIP

                -    Must have attended Root Middle School for at least one full school year

    -    Must be a senior in good standing and must be planning post-secondary education

    -    $500

    -    Due to the Root Middle School Office by March 13

 

RIOS SCHOLARSHIP

                -    Must be enrolled in an accredited school

    -    Must have held a leadership position in a school activity

    -    Must be active in more than one activity

    -    $1,500 to be awarded to deserving leaders

          Selection will be by a committee of Student Council members

    -    Due by April 21 to Mrs. Hershey

 

ROBERT J. PRITCHARD SCHOLARSHIP

              -    Must have attended Medina City Schools K/1 — 12 grade

    -    Must have participated in the sports of either golf, softball, and/or baseball

    -    Must be furthering their education by attending a 2 or 4 year college or trade

     school

    -    Due by May 1 to Mrs. Hershey

 

Medina County Federal Credit Union Bernard R. Spechalske SCHOLARSHIP

              -    Applicant or parent or grandparent or guardian must be a member of the Medina

      Credit Union

    -    Essays and transcript required; application available on website…

    -    Due by March 2 to Wadsworth, OH

    -    Note: Remember for next year: MCFCU has a Memorial Scholarship for

          college students!

 

MEDINA ATHLETIC BOOSTERS KEN DUKES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

              -       Must have participated in the athletic program at MHS

    -       Letters of recommendation required

    -       Number of scholarships and dollar amounts vary

    -       Due April 7 to Mrs. Hershey

 

DR. ANDREW J. KARSON MEDICAL/ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

              -       In memory of Dr. Karson

    -       Criteria: athletic participation, academic standing, need, overall school activity participation

    -       One for $1,000

    -       Due by March 31 to Mrs. Hershey

 

M.C.T.A./Marilyn Cross Memorial TEACHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

              -       Must pursue a major in the field of education

    -       Must demonstrate commitment to education

    -       $500

    -       Applications available in House 1 office.

    -       Due by April 17 to Mrs. Calaiacovo, room 2111 (application AND recommendation form)

 

Medina General Hospital and MGH  FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

    -       Must pursue a degree in nursing or an allied health curriculum

    -       Must enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or

            four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school

    -       Merit-based; NOT need-based

    -       2 for $1,000 each; consult http://www.medinahospital.org for an application

    -       Due by March 15 to Scholarship America, Saint Peter, MN.

 

Medina General Hospital MEDICAL STAFF HEALTH PROFESSION SCHOLARSHIP

    -       Must pursue a career in the medical field, i.e., pre-med, etc.

    -       10 scholarships for $1,500 each; consult http://www.medinahospital.org for an application

Medina General Hospital WILLIAM & RUTH KELLY HEALTH CAREER SCHOLARSHIP

              -       Must pursue a career in an allied health or nursing field

Delmar Graff SCHOLARSHIP

   -       Must enroll at an Ohio college or university in the field of MUSIC OR ART EDUCATION

   -       Due by April 1, 2009 to the Medina County School’s Educational Service Center

            Professional Building, 124 West Washington Street, Medina

 

Clarence H. Horn SCHOLARSHIP

              - Must enroll at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in the field of ACCOUNTING, EDUCATION OR A RELATED FIELD

    - Due by April 1, 2009 to the Medina county School’s Educational Service Center Professional Building, 124 West 

      Washington Street, Medina

 

Margaret Ford and Lloyd K. Smucker SCHOLARSHIP

              - Must have 3.0 gpa and college preparatory curriculum

    - Must demonstrate financial need by meeting the criteria for free or reduced lunch

      OR by having unique financial difficulties (with appropriate documentation)

    - Due by April 1, 2009 to the Medina County School’s Educational Service Center

      Professional Building, 124 West Washington Street, Medina

 

 

The Stephen F. Joseph Memorial 4-H SCHOLARSHIP

                    -    Criteria: academic achievement, citizenship, community service, leadership,

          and at least 2 years membership in 4-H

    -     Three recommendations required

    -      Due by 5:00 pm March 30 to the Medina County Extension Office

 

The Medina County Show Biz Company SCHOLARSHIP

              - Must have made a personal contribution to the performing arts while in high school

    - Must major in any aspect of the performing arts

    - Financial need

    - Essay required

    - Two scholarships for $500 each

    - Due by March 15 to Myrna Dooley, Medina County Show Biz Co., PO Box 814, Medina, OH 44258

 

King’s Daughters and Sons, Inc. SCHOLARSHIP

              - Open to any Medina County college bound graduating senior; Merit-based

    - $1000

    - Due by April 11 to Brigitte A. Popelars, 938 E. Washington St.,  Medina, Ohio 44256

 

MEDINA ROCK FESTIVAL PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

              - Must have been a Rock Festival participant while attending MHS

    - Must pursue a career in the performing arts field

    - Criteria: minimum 2.0 GPA, versatility, character, post-secondary school

      acceptance, community service, musicianship, and need

   - Amount and number vary; transcript and recommendations required

   - Due by April 20 to Mrs. Hershey

 

MEDINA HIGH SCHOOL HELPS (PTO)/BUG (Bring Up Grades) SCHOLARSHIP

     -    Must have attended MHS for four years and be in good standing as a senior

     -    Must plan post-secondary education

     -    Two scholarships of $250 each will be awarded to applicants who have had the

           greatest increase in GPA since the freshman year

     -    Interested students must complete the application; scholarship is not awarded automatically

     -    Due by March 13 to Mrs. Hershey

 

Dollars for Scholars Scholarships (National and Local Scholarships)

     -  Community Volunteer Service Awards (CVSA) program

     -  The AXA Foundation has donated $25,000 for 50 awards

     -  Open to seniors who have strong academic records; considerable volunteer community service experience

     -  Applications in the House One office

     -   If you wish to be considered for additional service scholarships, please submit a copy

         of your 2-sided application to Mrs.Hershey in House 1.

     -  Postmark deadline: March 15, 2009

 

Law Day 2009 Scholarship

     -      Sponsored by the Medina County Bar Association

     -      $2500 one time scholarship

     -      Essay Requirement: looking for an outstanding essay on the theme - “There Ought to be Law” or “Lincoln’s Legacy.”

     -      Applications in the House One office (see all essay directions from the application)

     -      Deadline: Applications and Essays must be received on or before April 15, 2009 to the Law Day Committee, Medina County Bar Association, 93 Public Square, Medina, Ohio

 

O.A.P.S.E.(Ohio Association of Public School Employees) Local 305 Scholarship

              -Scholarship opportunity for college bound seniors whose parent or guardian is a member, in good standing,

      of the OAPSE Local #305, Medina City Schools, Medina, Ohio

   -$500

   -Application and recommendations due to Denise Reinker by May 1

 

Medina County Association for LegaI Professionals Scholarship

             -Open to any graduating senior who is planning a career in the legal field

   -Merit and need based; recommendation and autobiographical letter required

   -$1,000; renewable, too!  Due postmarked by March 31, 2009

Medina County Chapter of Internat’l Assoc. of Administrative Prof.

   - Open to graduating seniors who plan a business related degree

   - References and essay required

   - Due by March 31, 2009

Medina County Art League Scholarship

             -Open to all Medina County graduating seniors who are continuing their art education in college

   -Four scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $300

   -Requirements are detailed on the sheet in the folder in House 1 Office.

 

A portfolio of 5-10 pieces of original matted and backed artwork, a college acceptance letter, and an application form are due to the Medina Hospital Medical Center on May 4, 2009 between 3 pm and 5 pm.

 

International Association of Administrative Professionals Medina County Chapter Scholarship

- Available to college bound seniors who are pursuing a business related degree

- Transcript, essay, and two references are required

- One scholarship for $500

- Due to Medina address by March 14, 2009
