Graduated from Miami University in 1993 with a B.A. in Literature and Journalism... received M.Ed from John Carroll University in 1995... taught Introduction to Fiction Writing (Creative Writing) and Composition I and II at University of Akron-- Wayne College...coached freshman baseball and directed Fall play at MHS for 7 years... currently directs S.P.I.C.E. FRESHMAN LANGUAGE ARTS (3111) ......... 
1 year....................................................... 1 credit 

This course will present word study and reading strategies including source evaluation. It will explore authors' techniques during literary studies, which will include several novels, plays, and short stories. Selections will include Romeo & Juliet, and may include titles such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Great Expectations, Night, Fahrenheit 451, Cold Sassy Tree, and The Watsons Go to Birmingham. Students will also examine and use various writing processes to create up to ten structured documents including a narrative essay, an informational essay, a persuasive essay, and a descriptive essay. Other writing experiences will include literary responses, business letters, and research. The course will explore writing conventions including spelling, grammar, and usage. Students will deliver four speeches or oral presentations including an informational and a persuasive speech. The course includes poetry study and writing and a unit on advertising techniques. Students will need to provide their own computer disks. 
 

SOPHOMORE LANGUAGE ARTS (3121)...... 
1 year....................................................... 1 credit 

This course will present word study and reading strategies including source evaluations. It will also explore authors' techniques during literary studies, which will include several novels, plays, and short stories. Selections may include To Kill a Mockingbird, Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, Antigone, and Farwell to Manzanar. Students will also examine and use various writing processes to create up to ten structured documents including a narrative essay, an informational essay, a persuasive essay, and a descriptive essay. These writing experiences will include literary responses, business letters and research, and functional documents such as memos. The course will explore writing conventions including spelling, grammar, and usage. Students will deliver four speeches or oral presentations including an informational and a persuasive speech. The course includes poetry study and a study of mass media. Students will need to provide their own computer disks.
