Fahrenheit 451 Novel Project Options:

1)      Produce a dramatic performance of a major scene in the novel.  Performance can be video taped or performed live in class.  It should include characters, costumes, dialogue, props as present in the text.  Lines should be mostly memorized for the most dramatic effect.  Each group member must write a reflection that identifies their role in the group and discusses the decisions made in performing the role.

 

2)      Create character sketches of at least 4 main characters from the novel.  Include description of major personality characteristics, major quotes that characterize the character, and an illustration or wardrobe design of what the character looks like.

 

3)      Create a newspaper from the world of Fahrenheit 451.  Must include a news report from the climax of the novel.  May include other features as editorial or opinion section, local news, weather report, TV listings, entertainment guide, business report, comics, advertisements etc.  Illustrations or photos should accompany appropriate components.

 

4)      Create an advertisement for the novel.  Perform the “commercial” in class or create a print advertisement for a magazine or newspaper.  You may advertise for the book or conceptualize a movie advertisement.  Identify your audience and incorporate at least 3 advertisement techniques that appeal to the audience.  Must include a written reflection that discusses the advertisement and the effectiveness of the techniques chosen.  Must include artwork or props to enhance the presentation.

 

5)      Create a setting concept for the novel.  Identify at least 3 major settings of the novel and illustrate or create models to represent the significant settings.  In a written reflection, discuss the decisions you made in creating the settings.  Also discuss the influence of setting over the other literary elements in the novel.  For example, could the events of this novel take place in any other setting?  Why or why not?

 

6)      Create a comic strip of a significant scene in the novel.  Represent the major characters and dialogue elements of the scene.  The comic must include at least 6 squares.  In a written reflection, discuss why the scene is so significant to the interpretation of the theme, characters, or major plot elements of the novel.

 

7)      Create a scrapbook that details the change of Guy Montag throughout the book.  Include illustrations, major symbols, quotes, and subtitles to show his development.

 

8)      Produce a news broadcast from the evening of Montag’s escape/ the climax.  Include interviews of eye witnesses and a report/summary of the major events leading up to this point.  For extra authenticity, include an advertisement for a product that could be useful in the world of Fahrenheit 451.  Each participant in this group must write a reflection which details their contribution to the project and explains the decisions he or she made in the performance.
