Imagine watching a movie or television program with a person from a different period in history.  What would that person find confusing?  What elements of our society and culture would need to be explained?  A person from the eighteenth century, for example, would be surprised to see people writing with a computer rather than with ink and quill and to find so many women engaged in professional careers.  Discuss the fact that any work, whether on film or in literature, must first be understood in relation to its time and place in history.
