Beginning Band

Concert Band - November thru June
The Marching Band
is organized three weeks prior to the start of the school year and continues
through the first nine weeks of school. This group rehearses during ninth
period in addition to Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3-5 p.m. The
Marching Band performs at all football games, band competitions, school and
community parades, and band shows.
The Concert Band
meets ninth period daily beginning the second nine-week grading period. A
student must audition for placement during the month of October. This group
is open to wind and percussion players in grades 9-12. Band literature is
chosen from various periods of music history. The literature is appropriate
to the instrumentation and developmental level of the membership. Sectionals for this group are held after school.
There are several performances and adjudicated events throughout the year
which students are REQUIRED to attend.
FEES
All students will be
required to pay a uniform rental and dry-cleaning fee of $70.00 payable to
the Medina Band Parents Association, and are required to purchase a bow tie,
cummerbund, and white tuxedo shirt through the Medina Band Parents Association
for approximately $35.00.
All students are
required to provide their own dress black shoes for concert season and will
buy through the Medina Band Parents Association black marching band shoes
for approximately $30.00.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE.............................................................................................................
This organization is
open to students in grades 9-12 who are concurrently participating in the
band program. (Exceptions are made for piano and electric bass players.)
It provides a culminating instrumental experience through the music of the
Jazz idiom. Membership in this group is determined by audition. Rehearsal
and performance schedules are assigned.
FEES
All students are required
to purchase a white tuxedo shirt from the Medina Band Parents Association
for approximately $20. All students are required to provide their own black
tuxedo pants and dress black shoes and socks.
7:30 - 8:20 --Wednesday-- Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra is open to string, woodwind, brass and percussion players in grades 9-12 by audition. Auditions for new members are held early in the second semester of the previous year. The Symphony Orchestra meets every day and studies a wide variety of orchestral literature from all periods of music history that is musically and technically challenging. The Symphony Orchestra plays concerts for the public and student body.
Students are required to attend all concerts, rehearsals and adjudicated events to complete the requirements of this course. Rehearsal and performance schedules are assigned. In addition, a performance evaluation of selected literature will be required each grading period.
Concert attire: Females supply the required uniform. This may require a purchase.
Males are issued tux jackets and pants. Males provide the required
accessories. Males will be assessed a tuxedo/dry cleaning fee of $6.50
(Payable to the Friends of the Orchestra).
